Department of Primary Industry and Regions SA Takes Out Gold
The IPAA 2017 National Conference held on the 14th of November in Canberra announced the Prime Minister’s Awards for Excellence in Public Sector Management. Conducted annually by the ACT Division of the Institute of Public Administration Australia (IPAA) and now in their 16th year, the awards aim to encourage and recognise better practice and innovation across all levels of government in Australia.
The Prime Minister’s Awards for Excellence in Public Sector Management aim to encourage and recognise better practice and innovation across all levels of government. The awards are designed to honour the achievements of public sector work groups, units and teams rather than individuals, with organisations needing to demonstrate that they are able to devise and implement innovative client focused initiatives. Each nomination is subject to a stringent four-dimensional assessment process which uses the PIMMS Methodology developed by IPAA to underpin its Excellence Model. The acronym PIMMS stands for Plan, Implement, Monitor & Measure, and Sustain.
Taking out gold prize was the South Australian Department of Primary Industry and Regions, South Australian River Murray Sustainability Regional Economic Development Program (SARMS-RED) initiative. SARMS provides a multi-faceted approach to achieving water returns under the Murray-Darling Basin Plan, supporting communities and regional economic development. The SARMS works to achieve water recovery returns and efficiency targets under the Murray-Darling Basin Plan. Funded by the Department of Infrastructure and Regional Development, SARMS-RED comprises three programs to encourage regional productivity and help river communities adapt to a future of reduced water availability. The three successfully delivered programs include, Regional Development and Innovation Fund (RDIF), Industry-led Research Sub-Program (ISRP) and Loxton Research Centre Redevelopment (LRC).
